Welcome, mead lovers! We're thrilled to launch our blog, a space where we'll share our passion for mead, explore its rich history, and delve into the art of crafting truly exceptional elixirs. And what better way to kick things off than by discussing one of our favorite topics: food pairings! Mead, with its diverse range of flavors, is incredibly versatile and can complement a wide array of dishes. So, whether you're a seasoned mead enthusiast or just beginning your journey into this ancient beverage, we're here to guide you through some delicious pairings with our own mythically inspired meads.
Our meads, each inspired by a different deity of the Greek pantheon, offer a unique tasting experience. Let's explore some ideal food pairings for each:
Hades (Braggot): This dark and mysterious braggot, with its robust seven-grain profile, calls for equally hearty fare. Think rich, savory dishes like roasted meats (lamb or beef), stews, or even wild mushroom risotto. The complex malt notes in Hades can stand up to bold flavors, creating a truly satisfying combination.
Dionysus (Nebbiolo): Our full-bodied Dionysus Nebbiolo, with its notes of dark fruit and spice, pairs beautifully with Italian cuisine. Consider dishes like pasta with a rich tomato sauce, grilled meats, or aged cheeses. The wine's dry finish and complex flavors complement the richness of these dishes without overpowering them.
Kronos (Capsicumel): The fiery kick of our Kronos Capsicumel, infused with habanero peppers, makes it a perfect partner for spicy foods. Think Thai curries, Mexican mole, or even spicy barbecue. The sweetness of the mead balances the heat, while the spice adds another layer of complexity. It can also be surprisingly good with rich chocolate desserts!
Persephone (Metheglin): This delicate and refreshing metheglin, with its rosemary and pomegranate notes, pairs well with lighter fare. Consider salads with grilled chicken or fish, goat cheese, or even fruit-based desserts. The herbal and fruity notes in Persephone complement these lighter flavors beautifully.
Hermes (Traditional Mead): Our crisp and clean Hermes traditional mead, crafted with local honey, is incredibly versatile. It pairs well with a wide range of foods, from charcuterie boards and light appetizers to roasted chicken and seafood. Its clean profile makes it a wonderful palate cleanser as well.
Artemis (Farmhouse Mead): The wild and free spirit of Artemis, our Farmhouse Saison-style mead, makes it a perfect match for game meats, roasted vegetables, or even spicy sausages. Its complex profile and refreshing finish make it a great choice for a casual meal.
Apollo (Fortified Cyser): The bright fruit notes of our Apollo Cyser, combined with its rich honey finish, make it an excellent companion for desserts. Think apple pie, tarts, or even a simple scoop of vanilla ice cream. It can also be a delightful pairing with strong cheeses.
Valhalla (Melomel): This divine melomel, with its blend of grapes, cranberries, and honey, is a wonderful pairing for poultry, pork, or even cranberry-based sauces. The semi-dry nature of Valhalla makes it a versatile choice for a variety of dishes.
Jacob (Pyment): Our Jacob Pyment, with its Amarone grape influence, pairs wonderfully with rich, savory dishes. Think of steak, lamb, or even a hearty mushroom risotto. Its full body and complex flavors complement the richness of these dishes.
Hephaestus (Braggot): The intense smoky and roasted notes of our Hephaestus Braggot make it a perfect match for smoked meats, barbecue, or even dark chocolate desserts. Its robust character can stand up to strong flavors.
